Their diet was based on ground sowing and linseed oil, served together with fruit juices, honey or dairy products. The reaction was to transform cyanide into cyancobalamin (Vit. B12) by using the help of rhodanase present in human tissues and liver. This issue should also be important for vegans and vegetarians, because they do not have to take artificially produced vitamin B12 in tablets - it is enough to add linseed, for example, to a salad with onions or garlic.
