Flaxseed is a food phenomenon which offers us a lot of benefits at a very low price. It is rich in Omega-3 acids, healthy fibre and many minerals and vitamins (e.g. vitamin E). However, many people do not know how to use this super-ingredient. Eat? Drink? Grind? Crumble? Cooking? In this article we will answer all these questions.
Linseed oil, which is squeezed out of seeds, is healthy even for people suffering from cancer, because it does not cause recurrence in therapy. Cold squeezed has a short shelf life and cannot be used for frying, and when it starts to taste bitter, it should not be consumed anymore. But we should not throw it away either! Ideal as a lubricant for hinges or chains.
It is better not to buy ground seed, but to grind on an ongoing basis, because the health compounds contained in it very easily oxidize. They can be ground in an ordinary coffee mill and stored at room temperature in a tightly closed container. Ground seeds should be consumed as soon as possible, as the fats in it quickly become rancid. The daily dose should be about 2-3 teaspoons - it will keep your body in good condition and at the same time it will not overflow. However, if this were to happen, it would be worth taking a few days' break to feel like this excellent product again.
Linseed should be ground immediately before consumption, preferably in an electric mill or a blender. Remember not to use the coffee grinder to grind the coffee at the same time, as the aroma of flax seeds can take over its aroma, which may bite with the taste of salads, etc. The aroma of flax seeds can take over the aroma of the coffee.
Seed grains should not be eaten dry, as they can clog the digestive tract. Ground seeds can be spread literally everywhere - to cakes, biscuits, bread, salads, muesli, yoghurt... its taste is mild and neutral, so we can successfully use it wherever we feel like.
You can also drink linseed - just pour boiling water over 2-3 grains, wait an hour, strain and drink such stock. It is a great medicine for diarrhea, because it contains a huge amount of lignans, fiber and Omega-3 acids.
You can also make a decoction, which will be an excellent hair care product. The method of preparation is identical, only instead of the throat, pour it onto the hair, massage in and maintain such a mask for about 35 minutes. It is worth repeating this activity for at least a few washes - it will give your hair shine and fluffiness, and in combination with the daily delivery of linseed to the body using the classic method, it will cause its faster growth.
Linseed is also a great nail care product, giving them hardness and shine. Just soak your fingers for 10-15 minutes a day in the mixture, and the effects will be visible after a week of action.
We already know not to buy ground seed, but what variety to choose? The easiest type available is linseed brown and it should form the basis of our diet, as it is inexpensive, popular and effective. However, when the golden Budwig earth falls into our hands, let's not hesitate. It is a bit more expensive, but also richer in healthy ingredients and has an even milder taste. Its only drawback is its difficult accessibility.
Linseed should not be used in large quantities by pregnant, breastfeeding or children. This is because flaxseed is rich in phytoestrogens that affect female hormones, e.g. in case of menopause symptoms. Siemia also contains 0.5 to 1.5% of cyanogenic glycosides, which, if we spread or soak the seeds, can produce hydrocyanic acid, known as Prussian acid, which is harmful to the organism, and acetone. Luckily, when taking the amount mentioned above, it will not have any negative impact on our body, and will even have a disinfectant and anti-inflammatory effect. Everything is too bad, and yet nobody will eat only linseed.
It is also worth mentioning that linseed seeds alkalize the body, and body acidification is a very popular affliction nowadays. We eat proportionally a lot of meat, dairy products and other products that acidify the body, and few vegetables and fruits that alkalize them. The solution may be linseed, which additionally has a rejuvenating effect.
In a study carried out by Dr. Budwig, it turned out that flaxseed has an anti-cancer effect and brought back to life many patients who were no longer given a chance. Their diet was based on ground sowing and linseed oil, served together with fruit juices, honey or dairy products. The reaction was to transform cyanide into cyancobalamin (Vit. B12) by using the help of rhodanase present in human tissues and liver. This issue should also be important for vegans and vegetarians, because they do not have to take artificially produced vitamin B12 in tablets - it is enough to add linseed, for example, to a salad with onions or garlic.
